EMERGENCY UPDATE: “Debunking Social Media with regard to Blacks and the Coronavirus”

TUESDAY, APRIL 7, 2020 Over recent weeks there have been some social media statements that suggest that African Americans cannot get the coronavirus. The Black Political Empowerment Project would like debunk those statements. The spreading of such false information could in fact be quite dangerous. The coronavirus has been diagnosed on all continents except Antarctica. The suspension of the National Basketball Association (NBA)’s season should have quickly cleared up the question of whether Black people were, for some reason, immune to COVID-19. Star NBA players have the disease, including: Rudy Gilbert (diagnosed on March 11, 2020), Donovan Mitchell (diagnosed on March 12, 2020) and Kevin Durant (diagnosed on March 14, 2020). Actor Idris Elba also tested positive for the virus. The first New York City police officer to die from the coronavirus, detective Cedric Dixon, was African American, as was a legislative aid to Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards, April Dunn, who also died from the virus.

IN MEDIA REPORTS OF TUESDAY, APRIL 7TH – 70% OF THE DEATHS IN LOUISIANA WERE BLACK! 40% OF THE DEATHS IN MICHIGAN WERE BLACK, EVEN THOUGH THE BLACK POPULATION IN MICHIGAN IS ONLY 14%. 70% OF THE DEATHS IN CHICAGO WERE BLACK, EVEN THOUGH THE BLACK POPULATION IN CHICAGO IS ONLY 30%!!
